Come sing-along with Doogie Howser

Webisodes are nothing new as far as media distribution is concerned. They have however gained enormous amounts of popularity over the past few years. The main reason being it's a quick and easy way to get your content in the homes of millions of viewers across the globe.

I'm not a big fan of musicals as a matter of fact i have a strong dislike for most of them. But add NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) into just about anything and I'll take a gander. Who would have thought Doogie Howser had so much talent. On second thought, he was a genius child M.D.

Penned during the writers' strike of 2007, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a series of webisodes that have now been collected and produced into DVD format. Everyone shines especially Nathan Fillion as the douchey hero Captain Hammer. I remember thinking to myself "Where in the hell is going?" Once it ended, I wanted to watch it again. The tunes are intentionally cheesy, but the singing is well done and the story moves along nicely.

Take a break from the blockbuster Michael Bay flicks and check it out.

Let The Right One In

With the overwhelming success of the Twilight Saga and HBO's True Blood, vampires have taken over the pop culture world in the past few years. Usually not my cup of tea (although I openly admit I do enjoy True Blood) I came across LET THE RIGHT ONE IN the other evening and was completely captivated.

Set in 1982 in a small town in Sweden, Oskar is a 12 year old growing up through a frustrating youth where he is picked on by the older more mature boys in his school. Eli moves in next door to Oskar to which they only meet out in the court yards playground in the middle of the night. He's frustrated and has a lot of built up rage and anger, she helps him release that anger.

It's not the best movie i've seen (I refuse to be a prisoner of the moment) but I wouldn't laugh at anyone if they said it was the best in the vampire genre. These two young actors simply carry this film with their innocence and horror. Beautifully shot and constantly filled with eery suspense and haunting sequences, LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is worth checking out. I've read there's already a remake set to come out this year, endure the captions (yes it's a foreign film) and see the original before Hollywood butchers this truly chilling little tale.

Lovin' the ETrade ads!

The tivo/dvr technology has elimated the need to sit through stupid commercials. Whoever created the ads for E*Trade, though, is genius! Love the talking baby.

Sharing is Caring

Ever been at a remote location and needed a certain file to complete your existence? Ok I'm obviously exaggerating a bit, but you get the point. There's plenty of file sharing shareware out there, however, Dropbox seems to be the most useful I've come across. Good on a PC, MAC or Linux Dropbox lets you have up to 2 Gigs of free space on a cloud server at anytime (You can pay a small monthly fee for more space). Let's say you have desktop PCs at home and in the office. Instead of burning a CD or using a flashdrive, simply open the DROPBOX folder on your desktop, drag the file over and you're all set.

Dropbox also has a web browser application which allows you to have access to any of your files on any computer at any time.

And the party doesn't stop there my friends. You can add "SHARED" folders with your friends across the country. So instead of ZIPPING 100 pics from your last camping trip and sending them through gmail, simply drag it over to your SHARED folder and anyone who has access can pull them down to their computer with ease.

Bottom-line, it's free, easy to use and puts a smile on your face. Check it out for yourself.

Old Spicing It Up

The Super Bowl seems to always set the tone for how advertising will continue throughout the year. Unlike the game which was pretty entertaining, the commercials weren't exactly top notch. They changed the E-Trade baby which left everyone confused. Dorito's got pretty violent with the kid slap, samurai ninja guy, dog shock collar and funeral casket spots. Bud light had a few decent spots but overall it was a lack luster year.

I was surprised to see this Old Spice "Man" spot air the day after the big game. In my opinion it supersedes anything that had a 3 million dollar tag the night before. Old Spice has "older man/gentlemen" connotations attached to it, especially their cologne and after shave products. This funny and fresh take on Old Spice puts them in a whole new light. You have to appreciate the product description as well "We're not saying this body wash will make your man smell into a romantic millionaire jet fighter pilot, but we are insinuating it."

It appears they've done a complete redesign to their website and deodorant/body wash products as well. Very slick. Bravo Old Spice. Bravo.
